Discover Melbourne's Legendary Croissants at Lune
When it comes to croissants, there's nothing quite like the ones from Lune Croissanterie. Considered by many to be the best in Melbourne - if not the world - Lune has redefined what a perfect croissant is. But does it really deserve its fame? I recently had the chance to try it for myself (the second time around), and here's my verdict.
Store Location & Vibe
I visited the Lune Croissanterie located in a charming Collin's St. in Melbourne's CBD. Inside, the shop exudes a clean, modern feel with an open kitchen where you can watch bakers work their magic. It's small but always buzzing, as locals and visitors line up to get their hands on one of Lune's legendary pastries.
The Croissants: What Makes Them Famous
As someone who's always been passionate about baking, I thought I could tackle the challenge of making croissants at home. But let me tell you - creating a perfect croissant is no easy feat. It's one of the trickiest pastries to master, requiring precision, patience and a whole lot of practice. The secret to Lune's legendary croissants lies in the meticulous process of creating layers of buttery dough, a technique that can take years to perfect. When I tried making them myself, I quickly realized how much work goes into those delicate, flaky layers - work that Lune does to perfection.
Lune Croissants are crafted with such precision and care. Each pastry undergoes a meticulous process, with dough that's folded and rested multiple times to achieve that perfect flake. The result is a croissant that's light, buttery and has just the right balance of crispiness and softness.
My Personal Experience
I tried the classic Croissant and the Almond Croissant. The classic was everything you'd want in a croissant - golden, flaky and with a buttery richness that melts in your mouth. But the Almond Croissant? A game-changer! Filled with almond cream and topped with slivers of almonds, it was an absolute indulgence!
After savoring delicious bites of Lune's croissant, I couldn't resist taking a few more home with me and also try their other irresistible creations. So, I grabbed a batch to bring back to Singapore. Even with the long flight, the pastries held up to their reputation and still delivered that perfect flaky, buttery texture when I finally got to enjoy them again. It was a reminder of just how carefully crafted each layer is. The Kouign Amann, with its crisp, caramelized layers, was an indulgent treat - sweet, salty and downright addictive. The Pain Au Chocolat was a classic, filled with rich, melty chocolate and encased in that signature flaky, buttery dough that Lune is known for. But another showstopper was the Lemon Curd Cruffin. This hybrid pastry was soft and airy, with a tangy lemon curd filling that perfectly balanced the sweetness of the dough. Each bite was a delightful explosion of flavors.
What sets Lune apart isn't just their mastery of the basics, but the sheer dedication to the craft of pastry-making. Each croissant is an artwork - crispy, flaky on the outside, with a melt-in-your mouth softness on the inside. It's clear that every layer of dough is carefully folded, rested and baked to perfection.
Whether you're a pastry connoisseur or just looking for an unforgettable breakfast, this place will not disappoint. If you're in Melbourne, make sure to carve out some time for Lune Croissanterie.
